Rabbi Abraham J. Mesch AZA will hold a basketball bounce-a-thon at the Levite Jewish Community Center in Birmingham on Sunday, raising money for hurricane relief.

Starting at 1:30 p.m. there will be a series of speakers, from leaders of local Jewish organizations to New Orleans residents to sports figures.

There will be a mini-basketball goal to “dunk” donations, which will go to the Birmingham Jewish Federation’s hurricane relief fund. The area will be set up as a mini-amphitheater with seating available.

The tentative schedule is: Rabbi Jonathan Miller of Temple Emanu-El (1:30 p.m.), Rabbi Brian Glusman of Temple Beth-El (1:40 p.m.), Richard Friedman of the Birmingham Jewish Federation (1:50 p.m.), former New Orleans resident Barbara Aland (2 p.m.), Bob Greenberg of the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School (2:10 p.m.), Kelly Hunter of WJOX-AM (2:20 p.m.), Courtney and Susan Fields of New Orleans (2:40 p.m.), Joyce Spielberger of the BJF Teen Tzedakah program (2:50 p.m.), Scott Moore of Fox Sports Radio (3:10 p.m.), Rabbi Avraham Shmidman of Knesseth Israel (3:30 p.m.), Jewish wrestler The Great Kaiser (3:40 p.m.), David Kahn of Blockbuster Video (3:50 p.m.), Samford basketball coach and former New Orleans resident Jimmy Tillette (4 p.m.), Sally Friedman of the Birmingham Jewish Foundation (4:10 p.m.) and Garth Potts of the LJCC (4:20 p.m.).
