Hadassah NOLA holding international panel on women’s issues

Hadassah New Orleans will present an international forum, “Dual Perspectives: Women’s Issues in the United States and Israel” on Nov. 8 at noon, discussing women taking their rightful place in leadership and other topics including COVID-19–related issues, domestic violence and reproductive rights.

Moderator Dina Kraft is a journalist and host of Hadassah’s podcast, “The Branch.” Kraft is based in Tel Aviv, where she is a correspondent for both Haaretz and The Christian Science Monitor. She reports on Israeli and Palestinian politics, culture and society. For the monthly podcast, she meets pairs of Jews and Arabs working together in different realms throughout Israel.

Panelists will be Hamutal Gouri, founder and CEO of Consult4good, who is a native of Jerusalem, and a feminist, peace and human rights activist; and Tamara Kreinin, director of the Population and Reproductive Health Program for the David and Lucile Packard Foundation in Los Altos, Calif.

Gouri is a cultural critic, lecturer, consultant and storyteller for social change. She served as executive director of the Dafna Fund, Israel’s first and only feminist fund. She continues to serve as a consultant to foundations as an expert on funding with a gender lens.

Gouri teaches a course on Gender, Leadership and Action in Civil Society Organizations at the Rothberg School for Overseas Students at the Hebrew University. She is an active member of Women Wage Peace, a grassroots movement calling for a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians, and a board member of the Jerusalem Pre-Military Leadership Program (Mechina).

Kreinin’s experience in health and human services spans more than 25 years. She has traveled the globe as an advocate and public policy advisor for sexual and reproductive health and rights. Kreinin is the co-author of “Girls’ Night Out,” a book about women’s groups across America, published in 2002.

Prior to joining the Packard Foundation, Kreinin served as the executive director of women and population at the United Nations Foundation, where she designed and implemented initiatives to improve life for women and girls globally, with an emphasis on reproductive health, comprehensive programs for adolescent girls, U.S. policy on behalf of women and girls globally, and partnerships with UN agencies.

“I am so excited that Hadassah New Orleans can host an international live discussion with two dynamic women leaders, moderated by an celebrated international journalist, bringing together speakers and viewers across Israel and the United States,” said Hadassah New Orleans President Briann Shear. “This is something that would have been unimaginable a year ago, but with the magic of Zoom and the internet we can provide this experience to anyone who wants to attend.”

The live program via Zoom will be free to all those who register in advance.
