Netanyahu to speak at GA in New Orleans

Earlier today, the Jewish Federations of North America confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will headline the 2010 General Assembly and Lion of Judah conventions in New Orleans next month.

Over 4,000 delegates from around the world are expected to attend. The GA runs from Nov. 7 to 9, and Lion of Judah from Nov. 8 to 10. The GA comes just after the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and much of the programming will reflect social action and hands-on commitment. There will also be a celebration of the progress made in New Orleans, assisted by roughly $30 million raised from the Jewish community after the storm.

Among other speakers scheduled for the event are Vice President Joe Biden, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren, and Tsipi Livni, leader of the opposition in Israel. Legendary activist Natan Sharansky is also scheduled to attend.

“The entire Jewish Federation movement is thrilled to have Prime Minister Netanyahu joining us,” said JFNA President and CEO Jerry Silverman. “The Prime Minister will be joining an array of inspiring world leaders who will help make this a powerful and memorable GA.”
