Healing service scheduled in Jackson

Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson will host a Healing Service at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 for the Jackson metro area community. Residents of the area and evacuees of all faiths are invited to join this community service in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Rabbi Valerie Cohen said the service will provide both caregivers and those being cared for with the opportunity to begin the process of healing the wounds left by last week’s devastating storm.

Beth Israel is located on 5315 Old Canton Road, Jackson, off of I-55 and the Frontage Road.

Rabbi Daniel Freelander, Vice President of the Union for Reform Judaism, will speak at the service. “The 1.5 million Reform Jews in the United States and Canada appreciate all that the people of Jackson have done to bring healing to the evacuees from the storm,” he said. “We want you to know we are here to help.”
